Abstract

The study on the Contribution of Ecotourism on Socio-Economic Development was conducted at a community-based ecotourism village in PeamKrasoab Commune. It is located in PeamKrasoap Commune, MondolSeyma District, Koh Kong Province, Cambodia. The aim of the study was to identify the contribution of ecotourism to socio-economic development.

Purposive Sampling Method was used to choose two villages (PeamKrasoap I and PeamKrasoap II) and determined fifty local resident households. While Simple Random Sampling Method was used to select the local residents for surveying by questionnaire.

The findings from the analysis concluded that ecotourism contributed to infrastructure development, provided employment and job opportunities for residents of PeamKrasaob Commune, increased personal skills, provided education, and enable them to have a better health care. In addition, ecotourism increased household income for local residents. However, the results showed that ecotourism contributed little to agricultural development and did not improve local businesses.

These findings are important for community-based ecotourism, local authorities and other stakeholders who can use them to develop strategies for improving living standards in this areas.
